HELLO and WELCOME to my Home Page.

The object of this Site is to introduce you to one of the several groups of families with the surname COPE.  I’ve been researching it for more than 25 years and, with some professional help, have managed to get back nine generations to the 1600‘s; I’ve been unsuccessfull so far, to link up with 16th century groups in the Parishes of Bitton or Dyrham & Hinton, so there is still much work outstanding.   I wish I’d started a One Name Study Group many years ago but there’s little point doing so at this stage of my life.
There must be several distinct Cope families in Gloucestershire as I’ve been unable to connect many of them.   My hope is that other people with links to Gloucestershire Copes might get in touch with me on the “off-chance” that we can all extend our knowledge.

The COPE Family of Southern Gloucestershire & Spouses etc.
The above watercolour was painted in Berkeley for a bit of fun, by the artist Stephen Jenner, nephew of Dr. Edward Jenner, (of smallpox vaccination discovery fame) and the William in question was my 2 x Great Uncle.  The original painting is owned by a distant relative whose family farms in Coaley, Glos.    (GO TO the key to the actual Berkeley characters etc.)
